The locations, and what they are in real life

Almost everything you recognise from the series sits within walking distance of Richmond Green, which is why the show feels like it happens in a village rather than in London. The Crown and Anchor is really The Prince’s Head, a working pub on the edge of the Green that was there long before AFC Richmond was invented, and we stop outside it for photographs. Ted’s front door is on Paved Court, a narrow pedestrian lane running off the Green between the shopfronts, and it is an entirely ordinary Richmond doorway until you know what it is. Richmond Bridge, the stone arches the camera keeps returning to, is the oldest bridge still standing over the Thames in London. Richmond Hill above the town gives you the wide view down the river that the series uses whenever it wants to remind you where it is set, and that view is protected by its own Act of Parliament, which is about as English as the show ever managed. Below it the riverside terraces run down to the water, and the quieter back streets behind the Green hold the smaller locations most visitors walk straight past.

One thing that is not in Richmond is the ground. Nelson Road, home of AFC Richmond, was filmed at Crystal Palace’s stadium in south London, so if that is the shot you are after it is a separate errand from this day. Everything else on the route is genuinely here, which is the pleasure of it.

If you are between flights rather than staying in town, our London layover tour from Heathrow works the same way, and music rather than television is covered on the rock and roll tour of London.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does the Ted Lasso tour take place?

In Richmond upon Thames, with a black cab collecting you in central London and taking you out there. Richmond is where the series was filmed and it is a distinctive corner of the city, all quiet streets, riverside scenery and a village feel that fans recognise immediately. You are brought back into central London at the end of the day.

Can we see the Crown and Anchor pub?

Yes, though it goes by another name in real life. The pub used throughout the series is The Prince’s Head on Richmond Green, and we stop there for photographs of the exterior. Richmond Green itself is the central filming location standing in for AFC Richmond, so the two sit together and there is time to walk around.

Do we see Ted's flat?

We do, or at least the outside of it. The apartment exterior with the front door used in the show is one of the stops, and there is a short pause for photographs. Like most of the locations on this route it is an ordinary Richmond building in real life, which is part of the appeal once you know what you are looking at.

Is there a Ted Lasso shop?

A merchandise shop is not part of the current confirmed itinerary. The Prince’s Head, used as the pub exterior in the series, is one stop on the wider Richmond filming-locations tour.

Do we get time to walk around Richmond?

Plenty. Richmond Green, the riverside walk and the quieter back streets are all done on foot, and Richmond Hill gives you the wide view out over the Thames. The itinerary is deliberately unhurried, so you can stop, photograph and take in each spot rather than being moved along to the next one.

Do we need to have watched the show?

It helps, but Richmond stands up on its own merits. The bridge, the green, the hill and the riverside make a lovely afternoon whether or not you know which scene was shot where, and your guide fills in the local history alongside the production stories. Our private tours of London page covers the other themed days we run.
