Step into Ireland’s past on a private castle’s day tour from Dublin, travelling through historic landscapes with your own driver guide.
This is a relaxed, full-day experience that focuses on two of Ireland’s most impressive castles, each offering a very different perspective on the country’s history. Leaving Dublin behind, the route takes you into the surrounding countryside, where the landscape opens out, and the pace naturally slows.
The first stop is Trim Castle, a striking Norman fortress set along the River Boyne. Its scale is immediately noticeable, with thick stone walls and a central keep that has stood for centuries. You have time to explore the grounds at your own pace. If you would like to see more, an interior tour of the castle is available as an optional activity, to be arranged with your guide on the day.
Later in the day, the tour returns closer to the coast to visit Malahide Castle. In contrast to Trim’s defensive design, Malahide feels more refined, with its long family history reflected in the interiors and surrounding parkland. The setting is quieter and more relaxed, with gardens and walking paths that make it easy to spend time here without feeling rushed.
If time allows, the return journey takes in the Howth Peninsula, where the road rises to reveal wide views across Dublin Bay and out towards the Irish Sea, an easy, scenic finish to the day before returning to the city.
This private tour is designed to be flexible and comfortable throughout, giving you a clear sense of Ireland’s castle heritage without the pressure of a fixed group schedule.
