Wales in a Week Tour – Small-Group Departure

— Summary

Experience the very best of Wales on this eight-day small-group adventure, travelling with like-minded explorers. This tour blends history, wild beauty, and authentic Welsh traditions, giving you a real taste of the country.

We begin in lively Cardiff, with time to explore its castle and historic arcades before venturing to the Pembrokeshire Coast, famous for rugged cliffs, beautiful beaches and colourful harbour towns like Tenby and Aberaeron. Heading north, we travel into the dramatic heart of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, where towering peaks meet glacial valleys.

Welsh history comes alive at Caernarfon and Conwy Castles, UNESCO-listed fortresses that tell stories of medieval kings and ancient battles. You’ll ride the historic Vale of Rheidol steam train, enjoy a traditional love-spoon carving demonstration, visit the charming Italianate village of Portmeirion, and taste some of Wales’ most iconic produce, including Penderyn whisky and the famous Halen Môn sea salt.

The journey ends in Llandudno. An onward transfer, accommodation, meals and supplier visits are included only when the written booking names the destination, hotel or standard, price and applicable terms.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Wales in a Week a small group tour or a private one?

This page advertises a small-group departure rather than a private vehicle for one party. Before booking, the written terms must state the departure date, minimum or maximum group size, what “guaranteed” means and what happens if the departure changes or is cancelled. Private alternatives sit under the UK multi-day tours.

Are hotels included in the Wales in a Week tour?

The page describes accommodation plus a welcome and farewell dinner. The booking confirmation must name the hotels or accommodation standard, meals, other inclusions, payment and cancellation terms before they are treated as part of the package.

Where does the tour start and finish?

The published route starts in Cardiff and finishes in Llandudno. Any onward transfer to Chester, Liverpool, Manchester or an airport is included only when the destination, time and conditions appear in your written booking confirmation.

What Welsh traditions do we experience during the week?

The outline proposes a lovespoon workshop, Halen Môn, Penderyn and the Vale of Rheidol railway. Each supplier visit, tasting, demonstration or ticket is included only when the written booking confirms its availability, cost and place in the group itinerary. Our twelve Welsh traditions guide provides wider background.

Which castles are on the itinerary?

Cardiff Castle in the first days, then Caernarfon and Conwy in the north, both part of the UNESCO-listed Castles and Town Walls of Edward I. Cardiff gives you the layers of a city castle, Caernarfon the scale of a royal fortress, and Conwy the walled medieval town wrapped around it. Between them they cover most of what Welsh castle building was for.

What is Portmeirion?

An Italianate village on the Welsh coast and one of the more surprising places in the country. Pastel buildings, piazzas and gardens sit above the estuary, looking as though a corner of the Mediterranean had been mislaid in North Wales. There is time to explore the gardens, the piazzas and the waterfront views before the road carries on into Snowdonia.

Is there free time or is every day planned?

There is a good deal of free time, quite deliberately. The evenings in Cardiff and Pembrokeshire are at leisure, Llandudno gets free time on the seventh day, and several stops through the week are optional rather than compulsory. The itinerary is built so you can take Wales at your own pace instead of being marched from one car park to the next.
