Which Cotswold villages does the tour visit?

Three, chosen because they are different from one another rather than three versions of the same postcard. Lower Slaughter is the quiet one, a river running past honey-coloured cottages with little to do but look. Stow-on-the-Wold is a proper market town with a central square, antique shops and St Edward’s Church. Bourton-on-the-Water, the Venice of the Cotswolds, has the low bridges over the Windrush.

Where do we stop for lunch?

In Bourton-on-the-Water, at a cosy local cafe or a welcoming traditional pub, and you choose which. It is the liveliest of the three villages, which is exactly what you want at lunchtime, and the river running through the middle makes it a pleasant place to sit for an hour. There is time to stroll afterwards before the drive on to Oxford.

What do we see in Oxford?

The historic centre on foot, which is the only sensible way to see it. That means the Bodleian Library, the Radcliffe Camera, the university college buildings and the skyline of dreaming spires they make between them. Your guide covers the city’s academic and literary heritage along the way, including the grand dining halls that inspired the Harry Potter films.

Is Oxford or the Cotswolds the bigger part of the day?

The Cotswolds take the longer share, since three villages and the driving between them fill the morning and lunch. Oxford has the afternoon, which is enough for the centre on foot but not for going inside every college. If you would rather have it the other way round, tell us before the day and we will weight it towards Oxford instead.

Can we go inside the Oxford colleges?

Some of them, though it does depend on the day. Colleges are working institutions with their own opening arrangements, and access changes with term, exams and events, so we would rather show you what is genuinely open than promise a specific quadrangle. The Bodleian, the Radcliffe Camera and the streets between them are the constants, and they carry the visit comfortably.

Can we see the Cotswolds over more than one day?
